                             TRAINING INFORMATION

FIRST THINGS FIRST

In order to take up LGV training you must first have the required provisional entitlement on your drivers license. If you do not have this entitlement on your license, you will need to fill in a driving license application form (D2) and submit it to the DVLA accompanied by a medical examination report (D4)
A medical report is needed so the DVLA has proof that you are fit to drive an LGV vehicle. Your application for provisional LGV entitlement should be processed by the DVLA within 10 to 14 days and returned to you enabling you to proceed with professional training.
DAC TRAINING can provide you with the necessary forms should you require, and also arrange for your medical assesment.
Please note that drivers with full cat C entitlement automatically have provisional entitlement for cat C+E and also do not require further hazard perception and theory test pass certificates.

DRIVING ASSESMENT

Once you have your provisional license, you can be taken out by one of our DSA registered instructors for an initial driving assessment.
The purpose of this assessment is to establish the standard of your driving and your particular training requirements in order to prepare you for the practical driving test. On completion of the assessment the instructor will give you an indication of the number of training hours required. Please be aware that all candidates have differing standards of driving, therefore it is impossible to estimate the number of hours required without an assessment but as a general guide most candidates will achieve a pass result within  20-25hrs of LGV training.
Here at DAC we can boast one of the best pass rates in the South Yorkshire region!

COMMENCE TRAINING

Your training will be on a one to one basis with the same instructor for the duration of your course and as an added bonus, DAC TRAINING is located directly on the Sheffield/Rotherham LGV test route, therefore as soon as you join the public highway from our yard you are gaining valuable training and knowledge of the test route.
Your training course will be planned around an available test date of your choice and can be provided as a block course  or odd days as required to suit your personal circumstances. We would however recommend a block course as in this way the training stays fresh in your mind and additionally block courses are discounted and therefore more cost efficient to you.
Training will also include the correct methods used within the haulage industry for checking vehicles prior to use and the use of tacho-graphs as a matter of course.
More in depth training is available on tachographs, drivers hours regulations and all other aspects of the haulage industry on successful completion of the practical driving test if so required.

HAZARD PERCEPTION AND THEORY TEST

Before you can take your practical test you must first pass the hazard perception and theory test, training for both of which can also be provided  by DAC.
We can loan you  the training discs so that you can practice the test on a  home PC but we do recommend that you have at least one attempt under supervision at DAC TRAINING before taking the discs home for study.
Hazard perception and theory tests are carried out at DVLA Leopold St in Sheffield, and can be booked for you by DAC at a cost of £50.00*
Alternatively you can make your own arrangements if you prefer, currently you can expect a wait of around 21 days for a test appointment so book in good time.
The certificate for passing these tests is valid for two years.

THE PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST

The test will be booked by DAC at Handsworth Sheffield and will take approximately 1hr and 15 mins. We will provide training for at least an hour prior to your test.
Please remember to bring both parts of your driving license and both your theory and hazard perception pass certificates or the examiner simply will not conduct the test.
If for any reason you can not keep the appointment, you must inform us within  at least 5 working days to avoid incurring missed test charges.
